Production of red partridge

Our incorporation of red partridge is relatively recent, starting at the beginning of the 1990s and then, through rapid evolution and learning, reaching our current position of extensive experience and knowledge of breeding, with our facilities now producing a high quality product. Our main goal is the selection of pairs for reproduction, thus allowing for high quality animals. We currently have three egg production nuclei for reproduction.

The reproducing partridge requires special care, since its laying cycle is seasonal, making its diet and comfort of great importance. The eggs are collected with maximum care every day, whilst the cubicle is checked to ensure a constant supply of food and water.

Control of laying is very important, ensuring that each battery has a male and female, and that the two elements of the pair can fuse. The control of laying is related to the fertility of the same, which is carried out in the incubation room where, once the hatching process is complete, the eggs which have not hatched are controlled and the cause of the same is determined. Once the process is complete, we can determine which pairs are not fertile, and re-establish with another.

The breeding of our partridges is worthy of special attention, since, right from the start of the process, our breeders know that they are working with an animal which will be used for cynegetic purposes, to which end they take full care of the same. Breeding starts in specially prepared units, with transfer to ranges after a certain period of time, as established by the head of breeding.

The flying range is where the partridge gets its characteristic eye, beak and foot colour and gets ready for commercialisation, which takes place after approximately 6 months. One month prior to the commercialisation of the partridge, blood samples are taken to check that the animal is in a perfect state.

S.A.T. CODORNICES URGELL is currently planning new facilities in order to improve the production of red partridge and increase its quality, with a view to becoming a reference point in the cynegetic sector.
